Description:
Sri Krishna Arjuna's humble chariateer continues to advice Arjuna about the perplexing situation of war. Sri Krishna advices Arjuna to fight, to do what is right under difficult situations. Acting for the good of society and vanquish evil doers is not a sin but a blessed ritual. Live and let die. Each individual is a parcel of society having a necessary role to play. He further adds that Arjuna is a warrior and if he does not fight than he would be shunned by society and called a coward. Sri Krishna continues his dialogue about life, performing ones duty for the good of society and facing ones fear. The noble-minded man is detached from both ego and world. He acts for the welfare of himself and others without thought of reward or gratification. He is indifferent to results; he is not swayed by the pleasant and the unpleasant. Arjuna listens but is still horrified by this mind boggling dilemma, shaking with fear. The very fact he must engage battle with his own extended family full of uncles, counsins and friends. This is a timeless classic epic and the "Song of the Lord". Krishna also reveals some higher truths to Arjuna, which only brings more suffering to his point of view. Krishna declares that war is inevitable and even necessary, because without conflict there is no progress; that every act of destruction is a part of life; that the heroes who were once hailed among men are now unnecessary; and that all such things only complete the great cycle of time. Time also has seasons from good to bad. People fall in the category of the three modes of nature. Mode of goodness, mode of passion and mode of Ignorance. Some people are in between the modes and others jump around like a monkey. Monkey mind. Some people are just crazy. There is a war waged on the field of battle, a war between extended family members and a psychologic war inside Arjuna's heart to fight or not. Indecision caused by internal conflict. This present era of war in Iraq, Afghanistan, terrorism on the rise, and suicide bombers, seems very relavent to Arjuna's situation ! Human beings are one big extended family on earth- brothers and sisters. It seems we are blind and do not see this. Welcome to the human league.
